The Power of Geometry: How a Pyramid House Can Connect Us to Nature

The use of geometry can shape a living space in unexpected ways. For the Pyramid House, the goal was to create a home that felt both unique and integrated with its lakeside setting. This project explores the potential of a classic shape to inform a sustainable architecture approach, resulting in a home that connects with its natural environment.

Located on the shores of Lake Päijänne, the house was built with a modern timber frame, a material choice that acknowledges the region’s long history of wood construction. Using a timber frame provides for an eco-friendly build and offers a comfortable, energy-efficient interior, suited for the Finnish climate.

A central feature of the home is the fully glazed observatory at the pyramid’s peak. This space allows for a constant connection to the outdoors, with views of the surrounding landscape and the changing seasons. The design of the Pyramid House aims to show how combining a simple form with natural materials can create a calm and thoughtful living space. This home is a reflection of Finnish design that focuses on harmony with nature, and it demonstrates how a modern wooden house can be a peaceful retreat.
