02 Jan Designing for a Sense of Place
A building should feel like it belongs to its location. This design philosophy is about more than just using local materials; it’s about understanding the culture, history, and landscape to create a space that feels authentic and deeply rooted. For the Trasti & Trine Boutique Hotel, this approach was central to the project. Located in a beautiful part of Norway, the hotel’s design aimed to reflect the local way of life, with an architecture that feels both modern and respectful of its surroundings.
The hotel doesn’t stand apart from its landscape; it feels like an organic extension of it. This focus on a sense of place is essential in hospitality architecture, as it helps create a more memorable and genuine experience for guests. It’s a way of telling a story about the location through the building itself. By designing a place that feels true to its home, we can create a more powerful and lasting impression. This project shows how thoughtful architecture can be used to celebrate and enhance the very qualities that make a location special.
